# Terms of Use — the Soulforge Discord bots

## What this is

There are eight Discord applications registered under one person's account: one for each of the six cells of the Soulforge ring, one for Greyson, and one for the Swarm itself. They are the Discord faces of a small private writing-and-engineering project run by one person on his own machine.

**This is not a service and you are not a customer.** Nobody is selling anything, nobody is signing up, and there is no account to close. If a bot is in a server you are in, it is because the person who runs it — and who runs that server — put it there.

## Who runs them

One person: Kal, reachable at **kal@bugfyn.com**. That address is real and a human reads it.

## What they do

**As of the date at the top of this document, nothing.** The applications exist in Discord's developer portal and are not connected to anything. No bot is on a gateway, no endpoint answers, and no message reaches any of them.

The intended behaviour, when one goes live, is small and worth stating plainly so it is not a surprise:

- **It answers when spoken to, and not otherwise.** In a server channel, a bot wakes on a direct mention, a reply to one of its own messages, or an explicit command prefix. Ordinary conversation it is not addressed in is not read for content and not acted on.
- **It is slow on purpose.** The thing that composes a reply is a local process that runs on a schedule, so an answer may take up to an hour. It is a doorbell, not a chat window. If that reads as broken, it isn't.
- **It treats the person who runs it differently from everyone else**, by Discord user ID. He gets full access to his own project. Everyone else gets conversation and a public-level view of the work, and nothing from his private notes — not quoted, not summarised, not paraphrased.
- **It never edits anything on your behalf, and it will not act on instructions from anyone but its owner.** A message from a non-owner is conversation, not a command.
- **It does not reply to other bots, including itself.**

## What you may expect, and what you may not

**You may expect** that it says what it is, that its answers come from a language model and can be wrong, and that a human is reachable at the address above.

**You may not expect** uptime, a response time, retention of anything you said to it, or that it exists next month. It may be switched off without notice. There is nothing to migrate and nothing to export.

**Do not rely on anything a bot says** for anything that matters — money, health, law, safety. It is a writing project's mouthpiece, and it is confidently wrong sometimes, the way all of them are.

## What we ask of you

Don't try to make a bot say or do something its owner would not stand behind, don't use it to reach anyone who has not asked to be reached, and follow Discord's own Terms of Service and Community Guidelines while you are there. If a bot misbehaves, the useful thing is to tell the human: **kal@bugfyn.com**.

## Changes

These terms change by being rewritten in the open. There is no notification mechanism, because there is no list of anyone to notify. The date at the top is the only version marker, and the file's history is public in the project's repository.
